We begin intervention with children when speech and language is not developing in the usual manner. Working with parents, care givers and schools, we help the child develop both language and articulation skills. School age children are supported in their development of reading, written language, and mathematics. Oral communication skills are strengthened in connection with both science and social studies.
We teach effective executive functioning strategies to integrate demands of studies, long-term projects, sports and family. Study time is made more efficient by use of electronic supports such as Quizlet, Inspiration and No Red Ink. Both note taking and in-depth writing assignments are facilitated by use of visual mapping. Students are provided with tools for self-advocacy in their interactions with faculty and school support services.
College Students and adults often present with undiagnosed learning or attention issues that have impacted their college studies or employment. Diagnostic testing is performed, and a series of learning strategies are developed. Strategies address difficulties with time management, reading comprehension, written language, slow information processing, and vocabulary enrichment.
Young adults and professionals are sometimes troubled with their communication skills. Accent reduction, public speaking instruction and interpersonal communication skills, which include voice and diction, are specifically addressed.
